THE STONE OF THE MONTH OF OCTOBER

tourmaline
The stone of the month for October is tourmaline.
This gemstone comes in a rainbow of pink hues.
The breadth of the colour range
of this gemstone is unrivalled.
Blues, high-end reds and greens.
Some history of tourmaline
indicates a Spanish conquistador who washed the earth
from a green tourmaline crystal and
confused the vibrant green gem with the emerald.
His confusion survived until scientists
recognised tourmaline as a distinct mineral species in the 1800s.
The name tourmaline comes from the
Sinhalese word 'turomalli', which translates as
stone of mixed colours. It is a term that Dutch merchants applied
to the multicoloured, water-worn pebbles that miners
found in the gravels of Ceylon (now Sri Lanka).
The ancient legend says that tourmaline is found in all
colours because it travelled along a rainbow and collected all the
colours of the rainbow.
Tourmaline is believed to strengthen the body and spirit,
especially the nervous system, blood and lymphs.
It also inspires creativity and has been widely used as a
talisman by artists and writers.
Some books state that tourmaline energy is
considered by some healers to be more suitable for males.
Green tourmaline is believed to stimulate use in financial affairs.

A happy October!
